Katie + Mike – Wedding at Camp Tamakwa, Muskoka Ontario

It’s been a while since we’ve updated our blog… but this wedding is worth the wait! This one is definitely far from a conventional wedding and by far one of the most well planned, intimate and beautiful weddings we have ever been to. It’s rustic vibe, DIY details and outdoorsy feel really made for a one of a kind event.

Katie is actually a friend of Azra’s from high school. The two lost touch shortly after University (over 10 years ago) but, thanks to Facebook, Katie found out that Azra was now a professional wedding photographer! Lucky for us, she wanted Face Photography to shoot her wedding. We really lucked out on this one! Katie and Mike are two of the sweetest and down to earth people you can ever meet and what a great way to reignite a friendship.

The wedding took place at Camp Tamakwa, a children’s summer camp in Algonquin, Ontario, about 3.5 hours north of Toronto.  You may recognize it as the filming location for the movie “Indian Summer” (1993). The camp only takes on two weddings per year, so it’s a pretty unique venue! One of the coolest things about it is that it’s an island in the middle of a lake… and the wedding and their guests are the only ones on it!

Guests arrived by boat on a gorgeous Friday afternoon. They were greeted and escorted to their “lovely” cabins, where many of them surely relived their childhood memories of summer camp! The afternoon was spent soaking in the sun on the beach/dock, swimming, canoeing and getting started with a few beers from the keg! Dinner was fabulous and the evening finished off with a cozy bonfire under the stars with family and friends.

The wedding day itself was unlike most other wedding days… anywhere! Yoga at 7:00 am on the dock, followed by a morning and afternoon of archery, ping-pong, hiking, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and parasailing. How awesome is that?! Around 4:00 pm, guests began to prepare for the evening’s festivities. The bride was all dolled up in a gorgeous vintage wedding dress and the groom was very handsome in his wedding night attire. The first look was really one of the sweetest moments you could imagine. You’ll know what we mean when you see the photos! The ceremony was super special in that the bride arrived by boat and the officiants were two of Katie and Mike’s best friends. It was sooooo pretty and very emotional. The guests enjoyed an outdoor cocktail party before the festivities would begin inside the camp’s “mess hall” (which no longer looked like a mess hall at all!). It was simply stunning! The night was full of beautiful words, many laughs, delicious food, and a pretty crazy dance floor!!! The band kept the party kicking till the wee hours of the morning (no shut down time when you have an island to yourself!).

After breakfast, guests said their goodbyes and the amazing weekend that was Katie and Mike’s wedding… had sadly come to an end.

This wedding was really special for us. Yes, because we have both known Katie for so many years, but more so because we spent so much time with this group of people that we really felt like we were there with family. Katie and Mike’s parents are some of the nicest and most genuine people you could ever meet and their friends are just awesome! We can’t say enough about the experience we had photographing these two, who really are so perfect for each other.

Thank you Katie and Mike for choosing us for your big day (big weekend!). This wedding will always stand out for us for all of the reasons above… and so many more.  We love you both and wish you a lifetime of joy, happiness and lots of adventure!

Stacy Squires Photography - love the simple out doorsy feel

Laura - Hello,

I am also looking to get married at Camp Tamakwa. I was searching for a place in Ontario to have a camp wedding and I fell in love with the gorgeous pictures of Katie and Mike’s wedding. It looked like a wonderful time with family and friends and the perfect camp experience for all. On Pinterest, I also found a very cool itenerary for guests who would be attending the three day event – it turns out it is also from Katie and Mike’s wedding! I was wondering if you know where they got it printed, as I would like to do something very similar.

Thanks so much,

Chelsea and Adam – Wedding at Kurtz Orchards – Gracewood Estates, Niagara-on-the-Lake

Normally it’s hard to compare weddings and honestly, all the weddings we’ve photographed have been so incredible in their own way. Until Chelsea & Adam’s wedding came along, we couldn’t pick our favourite! The photos tell a story of a beautiful enchanting fairy tale and if we could play music, it would be of a sweet and sensual melody, a timeless love song.

It was a like a dream.

And then we woke up and had to edit over 1000 photos!

Haha! In all seriousness, we are ever so grateful that Chelsea & Adam trusted us with their memories and invited us to be a partof something truly inspirational. Words can’t quite describe their wedding day but we think the photos do. So please have a glance to see for yourselves what dreams are made of.

With graciousness,

Amanda + Mike – Wedding at Terrace Banquet Centre, Vaughan

Amanda and Mike’s wedding was super special. These two have been together since high school and it had been in the making for many years.  Mike knew he was marrying his princess… but he may not have realized she would actually look like a princess on their wedding day! We have never seen a dress like this one before… it was SO gorgeous!!!

The day started off with friends and family gathered at each family home. This was the party before the party! Lots of food, drinks, laughs and more.  These two are definitely surrounded by such sweet and genuine people, which says a lot about them as well.

The ceremony was beautiful and we appreciated the great lighting in the church! The formal photos followed, and we had a ton of fun with the wedding party.  They were troopers… trucking through the mud for the perfect shot! We can’t say enough about the reception. Holy moly it was just so grand and classy! The band kept the party going and going. The guests were having the time of their lives!

We wish these two all the best in their new life together and thank them and their families for such a great day.
